Before the rally under OVA, a large convoy of cars with veterans drove up to the building of the regional police department, where the veterans also voiced their demands, reports Oboz.ua.
The participants of the rally demand from the Minister of Internal Affairs Igor Klymenko and the head of the National Police Ivan Vyhivskyi to return the body of the deceased Rusinov to his family for a dignified farewell and the release of the head of the National Police in the Cherkasy region Oleg Hudyma.
“Our demands for Rusinov are as follows: hand over the body, because the body is not handed over, give his land, say goodbye to him, see him off as a hero – he fought in 2014, left again in 2022, now his two sons are protecting our grandmother. The second is to find out who ordered and who gave the orders, and the third is to bring the head of the regional Ministry of Internal Affairs Gudyma to justice,” the veteran stressed. The co-organizer of the event, Serhiy Koval, noted that people from almost the entire country came to the rally in Cherkasy to jointly demand an objective investigation of the events.
“The first of our demands is to pay attention to the veterans, the second is responsibility for the executors, and to remove the regional police chief. The person was in charge of this, the regional chief knew what was happening. He knew what could happen, and he sent the police there, they were shot, our brother died, he was also shot, and it hurts,” Serhiy Koval said.
Another participant of the action, veteran Andriy Zozulya, said that on January 27 he was near Serhiy Rusinov’s house and wanted to help. According to him, the veterans wanted to settle everything without an assault. He does not justify Rusinov’s actions, but believes that the situation could have been resolved without shooting.
Reaction of the deputy
Deputy of the Korsun-Shevchenkiv City Council Vitaly Storozhuk stated that the information about the conflict with him is fabricated.
“I never had and could never have a conflict with Serhii Rusinov. On December 23, 2025, at the budget session of the Korsun-Shevchenkov city council, veteran of the Armed Forces Serhiy Rusinov was present in the hall together with my assistant, deputy deputy Voropai Volodymyr, and publicly supported my speeches and position.

Storozhuk stated that earlier he was the initiator of the issue of land allocation for a group of veterans, one of whom was Rusinov.
“Repeatedly, I received appeals from veterans and military personnel from neighboring communities with copies of refusals from local self-government bodies – the guys turned to me for consultations and advice.
Any statements about “business conflicts” or “property confiscation” have no basis and do not exist in reality,” the deputy writes.
Storozhuk also stated that he was never on the so-called “Seliger” in 2011 and was not in the Russian Federation during this period.
