According to the results of 2025, about 80% of online fraud cases in Ukraine will be customer manipulation schemes, while only up to 20% will be classic crimes of unauthorized access to accounts — hacking or physical theft of bank cards.

Anna Dovgalska, deputy chairman of the board of Globus Bank, told about it.

According to her, interfering with the “consciousness of the client” significantly complicates the detection of crimes, because from a technical point of view, the transaction is confirmed by the legal owner of the account himself, and traditional security systems are almost powerless in such cases.

The banker noted that in 2025, the number of non-cash fraudulent transactions in Ukraine will increase by an average of 12-18% and reach approximately 310-340 thousand incidents. The total financial losses of citizens are estimated at UAH 1.4–1.6 billion.

“We can say that the technical development of bank protection systems forced thieves to also look for new forms of fraud. The “battle for minds” continues, because fraud has become a systemic, professional and global business with its own infrastructure, including call centers. Now frauds with authorized payments have come to the fore, where citizens are tricked into sending money on their own,” Dovgalska stressed.

Anna Dovgalska described in detail the new schemes that pose the greatest threat.

This is the so-called “long game”, when the victim is convinced that he is investing in legal stocks or cryptocurrency. Criminals create professional platforms imitating real brokers with real stock quotes. The client sees a fictitious “profit” and continues to invest. Problems arise only when trying to withdraw money – fraudsters demand to pay a verification fee. As a result, a person loses all the invested funds.

These are voice and deepfake attacks, when criminals clone the voice of a loved one or use video calls with a mask of a familiar face. The biggest danger is short voice messages in messengers asking to “borrow by the evening.”

These are large-scale organizations with their own HR structures, training programs and KPIs. Dozens of operators work according to clear scripts, presenting themselves as “bank security” or other official structures.

There is also an active spread of quishing — fake QR codes, as well as cases when fake “bank representatives” personally come to collect cash.

According to Dovgalska, modern antifraud systems use a combination of statistical models and machine learning to analyze transactions in real time. On average, only 1–3% of active payment cards fall under temporary restrictions.

To increase the level of security, the banker advises:

  • abandon SMS codes in favor of push confirmations and biometrics;

  • bind the client profile to specific devices;

  • keep the main funds in a separate account;

  • use a virtual card with a zero credit limit for purchases;

  • configure a cloud password in messengers and prohibit adding to unknown chats.

In addition, she recommends ignoring calls allegedly “from the tax office”, “SBU” or “bank security”, during which they demand to urgently transfer funds to a “safe account”.

Recently in Kyiv, swindlers defrauded a 74-year-old pensioner of over UAH 1,400,000 in various currencies, under the guise of allegedly checking the money by the special service for involvement in the aggressor country.
