In Lutsk, portraits of Volyn businessmen Viktor Chornukha, Leontii Ivanyshyn, Yevhen Dudka and People’s Deputy Ihor Palitsa have already been painted in the upper church of the Cathedral of the Holy Trinity
Archpriest Vitaly Sobko, head of the press service of the Volyn Diocese of the OCU, told Espresso.Zakhid about this.
“For now, the bishop will still think about how to change the approach to honoring the founders (patrons of churches – ed.) And those portraits that were in the Lutsk church have already been painted,” Father Sobko noted.
It should be noted that on the murals you can recognize businessmen-builders Viktor Chornukha and Leontii Ivanyshin, the owner of an agricultural enterprise Yevhen Dudka, and others. It is noted that among the frescoes was a portrait of the oligarch Ihor Palitsa. Mayor Ihor Polishchuk says that Ihor Palitsa himself asked to dismantle the mural with his face
Metropolitan of Lviv and Sokal OCU Dimytriy Rudyuk believes that a number of mistakes were made during the painting of the church, and patrons could have found another place in the cathedral. For example, where candles are sold, or next to the image of the Last Judgment.
In addition, in the Volyn Diocese, the OCU promised to change the form of honoring donors, whose images had previously appeared on the walls of the church.
We will remind, on the walls of the cathedral in Lutsk, where restoration work is ongoing, frescoes with portraits of Volyn businessmen appeared on the walls.
This caused considerable indignation in social networks among the townspeople. The mayor of Lutsk, Ihor Polishchuk, also reacted to this, saying that there are “more appropriate ways to thank patrons for their contribution to the reconstruction of the temple than to depict them on murals.”
At the same time, he reacted to the images on the walls of the Igor Palitsa Cathedral. According to Polishchuk, he learned about his portrait in the church personally from the mayor more than a month ago, after which Palytsia immediately asked him to remove it, because, in his opinion, it violates God’s commandments and contradicts his moral and ethical principles. The next day, according to Polishchuk, the mural was removed.
