In Cherkasy region, a group was exposed that was illegally extracting river sand from the Kremenchug Reservoir. The perpetrators worked outside the permitted area – about half a kilometer from the shore.

For extraction, they used a powerful dredger with a 150 hp engine, capable of pumping up to 250 cubic meters of sand per hour – this is the equivalent of four large dump trucks.

The permit used by the defendants provided for significantly smaller volumes of work in another part of the reservoir. Mined sand was illegally transported to the shore through a slurry pipeline and sold to enterprises and private individuals, mostly for cash, without paying taxes or rent for the use of the subsoil.

The group was exposed by investigators of the Main Investigative Department of the National Police under the operational support of the Department of Strategic Investigations in the Cherkasy region.

The extras face up to 8 years of imprisonment with confiscation of property.

We will remind, the SBI suspects the ex-head of the Ministry of Defense department of losses of UAH 322 million.

The SBI also referred to the court the case of a deputy who, for money, removed evaders from the register.
