Hungarian Foreign Minister Peter Siarto made a loud statement about his country’s position regarding Ukraine’s financial support.
He wrote about it on Facebook.
According to him, Hungary is strongly opposed to the use of their taxpayers’ funds to finance the supply of weapons to Ukraine.
Siarto noted that a new financial assistance package for Ukraine is discussed during a meeting of the EU Foreign Ministers. Its total volume can reach at least 20 billion euros.
However, Hungary does not intend to participate in this process.
“We will not allow ourselves to involve ourselves and not allow the money to be used to finance the supply of weapons to Ukraine,” the minister said.
At the same time, Siarto stressed that his country supports the idea of peace talks as an alternative to escalation of war. According to him, thanks to the actions of US President Donald Trump, the prospect of peace has become closer than ever in the last three years. He also criticized Brussels’s intentions, who, he said, may complicate peace talks.
We will remind, among the EU Member States there is a discussion of the possibility of depriving Hungary of the right of voice during the adoption of key decisions. The reason was Budapest’s decisive reluctance to continue a number of EU sanctions against Russia in recent days.
We also recently wrote that Hungarian Foreign Minister Peter Siarto has declared a temporary termination of Russian oil supply to his country through the Druzhba oil pipeline.
