More than 500 occupiers officially deserted from the Center of the Army of Occupation of Russia during the New Year holidays alone.

This was announced on Thursday, January 9 by the I Want to Live project, which is a state project of the Coordination Headquarters for the Treatment of Prisoners of War and was created with the support of the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine and the Main Directorate of Intelligence.

As reported in the project, new data on the scale of voluntary abandonment of the part (SZCH) in the Russian army were provided by sources in the Center group of troops.

“We have an interesting document at our disposal, which reveals the total number of servicemen of the Center group, as well as separately of the 90th tank division, who were included among the deserters,” Hochu zhit reported.

It is noted that as of January 2, 2025, 14,053 servicemen were recognized as having committed crimes against humanity in the Central Military District.

“Over 500 people officially deserted during the New Year holidays alone. It is characteristic that most of the SZH (almost 95%) turned out to be in the 2nd and 41st Armies and the 90th Tank Division, which are conducting a bloody offensive in Donbas,” the new data commented in the project.

It is also emphasized that the soldiers from Company V are convicts who are recruited from prisons and are present only in line units that participate in battles. That is, as explained in I Want to Live, they are used exclusively as stormtroopers, “only for meat.”

In addition, it is emphasized that the published figure does not reflect the scale of desertion even in a single group of troops. In combat units, those who escaped are often not officially recorded, preferring to catch defectors and escapees with their own forces.

“In general, it is pointless to open criminal cases against servicemen in the Russian Federation now. All the same, for them, everything ends with a return to the front,” they say in Hochu zhit.

In November, it was reported that more than a thousand occupiers from the 20th motorized rifle division of the aggressor country Russia had deserted from the war against Ukraine.
