When did HR profession appear? Once upon a time, in the industrial era of the twentieth century, when companies began to be aware: people are not just a workforce, but an environment that needs support, development and attention. Initially, HR (or as it was called – personnel management) was engaged only in the design of papers, salaries and discipline. But over time, these roles have evolved significantly: adaptation of newcomers, development of talents, corporate culture, mental health, cooperative motivation – and all that makes the working space human, supportive and productive.
Imagine for a moment that HR teams would not be. Who would pick people who would help introduce new employees into the case? How would conflicts resolve when different expectations or views? Who would make sure everyone feels safe to be justice, career growth, feedback? Working days would become chaotic, stress levels are much higher, and the team atmosphere is cold. Often it is HR – the thread that holds all this: communication, openness, support, development.
So today, on HR day, I want to say a lot thank you to those who:
- He listens, often the first when someone has a problem;
- Helps find your place in the team;
- invents activities, initiatives, trainings that can change the day (or even life) for the better;
- creates rules, but with flexibility and humanity;
- Sometimes – in humor, when you just just do not do without it.
