How Ukrainians see victory in the war: data from sociologists

40% of Ukrainians will consider the exit to the borders of 1991 as a victory. But at the same time, joining NATO is also necessary. 40% of Ukrainians will consider the exit to the borders of 1991 as a victory. But at the same time, joining NATO is also necessary.

The director of the sociological group “Rating” Oleksiy Antipovich said this in an interview with the BBC.

“But recently, in the answers to this question, a certain international component appears more and more often – Ukraine’s membership in the EU or NATO. That is, the Ukrainian wants the return of the borders of 1991 in any case, but he understands that, even after receiving these borders, they must be preserved, and this will not be possible without international support, without international help. Therefore, the Ukrainian is not ready to choose the option of “the border of 1991 without an international security umbrella, international support,” Oleksiy Antipovich said.

At the same time, the Ukrainian is not ready for the so-called exchange of territories for peace, says the Director of the sociological group “Rating”. Ukrainians still declare a great desire not to lay down their arms and defend or even win back their territory. There is simply an awareness that it is impossible now.

At the same time, Ukrainians support the Kursk operation. She demonstrated that, despite everything, we can still take unpredictable steps that clearly affect Russia. They are fighting on our territory – we are fighting on their territory. In Ukraine, this is perceived as a certain balance, although not very proportionate in scale.

“Now, under 60% of Ukrainians believe that in the future it will have a positive effect on the outcome of the war for Ukraine, for example, when some agreements are reached, it will be possible to play into some kind of exchange of territories,” concluded Oleksiy Antipovich.

Meanwhile, support for European integration of Ukraine reached a record level.

We will also remind you that the level of sympathy of Ukrainians for Poland and Poles decreased from 83% in 2022 to 41% in 2024. In Poland, it is believed that the blocking of the border and “historical fears” had an effect.
