In 2024, there were 218 fewer religious communities in the Ukrainian Orthodox Church of the Moscow Patriarchate – they transferred to the Orthodox Church of Ukraine.
This was reported by the State Service for Ethnopolitics and Freedom at the request of Interfax-Ukraine.
They said that in 2018, the year of creation of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church of Ukraine, subordination to religious centers in canonical and organizational matters was changed by 2 religious communities of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church of Ukraine. In the following year, 319 communities did it, in 2020 – 30, in 2021 – 25, in 2022 – 496, and in 2023 – 471.
As of December 23, 2024, another 218 communities have joined the Orthodox Church of Ukraine.
The department also noted that they do not have information on the number of liquidated religious organizations of the UOC MP.
We will remind that President Volodymyr Zelenskyi held a meeting with the delegation of the Ecumenical Patriarchate. He assured that the state is doing everything possible to overcome the challenges facing the church in Ukraine.
