Holding future elections in Ukraine may cost the state at least UAH 20 billion.
This was stated by Deputy Chairman of the Central Election Commission Serhiy Dubovik in an interview with “RBK-Ukraine”.
According to him, the last presidential elections in 2019 cost the budget about UAH 2 billion. Currently, the calculations are much higher due to inflation and new conditions.
“According to the basic calculations of the CEC, taking into account inflation, the elections of people’s deputies and local elections cost UAH 4-5 billion on average, while the presidential campaign is more expensive,” explained Dubovik.
The first round of presidential elections will cost about 4-5 billion UAH, and the second round – another 6.5-7 billion UAH.
The deputy chairman of the Central Election Commission emphasized that about 70% of all expenses are paid for the labor of members of the district, precinct and territorial election commissions. At the same time, these amounts do not include the costs of local self-government bodies for the preparation of polling stations, premises and material support, as well as a possible increase in the number of polling stations abroad, which will increase foreign exchange costs.
“Taking into account the expenses of local self-government bodies, if we are talking about all three types of elections, it is approximately UAH 20 billion. This is a conditional number, but it is alive – and it is no less,” Dubovyk concluded, admitting that such an amount is a serious challenge for the state.
