“What is Kurakhovo’s problem? In the fact that there is a reservoir to the north of Kurakhovo, where the enemy destroyed the dam, and further north of this reservoir, they pushed our units quite hard. And to the south of Kurakhovo, they also pushed back from the flank [наші війська]. And the only road that goes for supplies to Kurakhove is located in the south. And the enemy is standing very close to this road, we are talking about several kilometers,” Narozhny explained.

At the same time, the expert noted that approximately half of the city is under the control of the enemy, and urban battles are taking place there:

“And to say whether they really captured Kurakhov – at the moment, I think, it is too early to say about it. But the fact that Kurakhove is under a huge threat of occupation is really true.”

If the enemy succeeds in capturing Kurakhove, Narozhny added, he will level the front line:

“And this means that they will be able to transfer quite a lot of resources to some direction. With a high probability, it will be the neighboring Pokrovsk, where they will continue to storm.”

As the Institute for the Study of War reported on December 27, enemy troops advanced in the Kurakhovo area.

Russia stepped up its attack on the city as early as mid-October 2024.

According to reports, the aggressor has concentrated approximately 35,000 to 36,000 troops in the direction of Kurakhovo in recent months and has likely suffered significant losses during this period.

Over the past two months, the occupiers have also carried out a large number of armored attacks in and near Kurakhovo and likely suffered significant armored losses.

On December 24, DeepState reported that the army of the aggressor country Russia occupied Makarivka, Sukhyi Yali and Zelenivka in Donetsk region.

The Khortytsia Security Service confirmed that Ukrainian servicemen lost some positions in the Kurakhiv direction.
