The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine submitted eight printed editions to the Ministry of Culture and Strategic Communications, published in the period 1830-1906 in the printing houses of Berlin, Leipzig, Stuttgart and Munich.
About it reports MKSK.
It is noted that the books were voluntarily returned by the German Barbara Breesy citizen of the Embassy of Ukraine in Germany. Valuable specimens in the years of German occupation from Ukraine exported her father. On the title page of each book there is a stamp of the library, which indicates the institution where the publication was stored, or the seal of the owner of the book.

“The rare academic editions of 1830-1906 returned to Kiev in 80 years. Each of them is not only a valuable folio, but also a testimony that at the end of the XIX – early XX century, there was a high level of university education and academic science in Ukraine. We are grateful to Ms. Barbari Braes for this noble step, as well as diplomats of Ukraine for their assistance to the return of these values. Today’s event is a living testimony to Ukraine’s active participation in international treaties for the return of cultural heritage and counteracting illegal export of inheritance. Other valuable artifacts will return to the country in the near future, ”said Deputy Minister of Culture and Strategic Communications Sergey Belyaev.
He also noted that earlier the German editions were stored in the libraries of St. Vladimir University, the Kiev Musical and Dramatic Conservatory, as well as in the private meetings of the famous Kiev publisher Leon Idzikovsky and Professor Julian Kulakovsky.

The ICSC will submit to the State Library Funds, including the Yaroslav the Wise National Library of Ukraine, Taras Shevchenko National University of Kyiv and Peter Tchaikovsky National Music Academy of Ukraine.
