Ukraine and France are working on the possibility of launching renewable energy in the Chernobyl exclusion zone.
The Minister of Environmental Protection and Natural Resources of Ukraine Svitlana Grinchuk together with the Special Ombudsman of the French Republic for assistance and restoration of Ukraine Pierre Elbron visited the Chernobyl Exclusion Zone.
The purpose of the visit is to look at the opportunities for investing in renewable energy in the exclusion zone. As for partnership with the French side, this topic was already discussed during the meeting of Minister Svetlana Grinchuk with Mr. Pierre Elbron this year. Then the Special Commissioner of the President of the French Republic for assistance and restoration of Ukraine stressed that French companies have already made analytics and see great potential in this direction.
Participants also examined the consequences of Russia’s recent attack on the NBK arch, an object to which French companies and specialists were involved.
French partners are currently considering providing assistance to restore the arch under the Chernobyl International Cooperation Account. Currently, active work is underway to evaluate damage and develop a plan for restoration of the arch functionality.
This meeting is another step in strengthening the cooperation of Ukraine and France in the field of nuclear safety and restoration of ecological stability in the Chernobyl zone.
