France has announced a contribution to the Chornobyl Fund of the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) 10 million euros. This will continue to finance the work on the repair of the protective shelter over the fourth power unit of the Chernobyl NPP, which damaged the Russian drone.
This was reported by the press service of the Ukrainian Ministry of Finance.
Representatives of France announced the contribution during the meeting of the Assembly of Donors of International Cooperation for Chernobyl. In London, the contribution agreement was signed by the Special President of France for Economic Assistance and Reconstruction of Ukraine Pierre Elbron and the EBRD Vice -Cresident on Policy and Partnership.
The EBRD created an account of international cooperation for Chernobyl in 2020. It maintains interaction with donors on the comprehensive solution of Chornobyl issues.
The purpose of the Fund is, in particular, to support Ukraine in overcoming complex challenges to dismantle unstable shelter structures over the fourth energy unit of the Chernobyl NPP, repair work for the safe operation of new protective shelter and the management of radioactive waste and waste nuclear fuel.
With the beginning of a large -scale Russian invasion, the fund of the Fund has expanded to cover, in particular, measures aimed at restoring nuclear security and protected Chernobyl NPPs.
Given the extent of damage to the new shelter over the fourth power unit, the cost of its restoration will be significant and resources are now available.
The total cost of full restoration of a new safe confinement may exceed 100 million euros, and now the Fund’s account has more than 19 million euros.
Russia has again resorted to terrorist actions on the atomic objects of Ukraine. In response, the Cabinet of Ministers allocated more than UAH 1.5 billion to ensure the safe condition of the Chornobyl NPP shelter.
We will remind, after the impact of the Russian drone on the Chernobyl NPP on February 14, Ukraine consult with international partners. Damaged sarcophagus will be quickly recovered.
The Deputy Head of the Ministry of Energy Roman Andarak, in turn, stated that the consequences of punching the Sarcophagus of the Chornobyl Nuclear Power Plant (Chernobyl) will depend on the force of impact and explosion.
The head of the EU diplomacy, Kai Callas, has sharply condemned the Russian blow with a drone at the Chernobyl NPP, calling the attack “reckless”.
