The Court of Appeal of the city of Paris refused to extradite the Ukrainian businessman and philanthropist Kostyantyn Zhevago, which was insisted on by the National Anti-Corruption Bureau of Ukraine (NABU) and the Specialized Anti-Corruption Prosecutor’s Office (SAP).
This is stated in an e-mail sent by Zhevago’s press service to journalists, Hromadske writes.
The press service of Zhevago reported that the French court did not agree with the arguments of the Ukrainian side that in Ukraine the businessman will be able to guarantee the right to a fair and impartial trial.
The request for Zhevago’s extradition was initiated by the Office of the General Prosecutor and NABU within the criminal proceedings in which Zhevago is suspected of bribing the chairman and judges of the Supreme Court.
The businessman’s lawyers previously claimed about “numerous procedural violations” on the part of NABU and SAP in this case, in particular, that the investigation was conducted without the participation of the suspect. Zhevago himself stated that the criminal case against him “has nothing to do with justice” and called on NABU and SAP to “finally hear the position of international courts.”
