Following a meeting with his French counterpart, Catherine Vautrin, Minister of Defense of Ukraine Mykhailo Fedorov announced preparations for the transfer of the next batch of Mirage 2000 aircraft. In addition to aviation, the parties discussed the supply of SCALP long-range missiles, AASM Hammer guided air bombs and Aster missiles.
This was announced by the Minister of Defense of Ukraine Mykhailo Fedorov.
The parties paid special attention to the strengthening of air defense through the purchase of SAMP/T, Mistral and Crotale systems. Fedorov offered the French side to work together on the modernization of the SAMP/T complexes so that they could more effectively intercept ballistic targets with which the Russian Federation continues to attack Ukrainian cities.
The key result of the negotiations was the signing of the Letter of Intent on the deployment of joint production of weapons. Ukraine and France plan to jointly create innovative electronic warfare (EW) systems and test new security solutions directly in combat. Financing of these projects will be provided through the credit line of the European Union and the specialized SAFE program. Such a transition from simply receiving aid to a long-term industrial partnership will significantly increase Ukraine’s defense potential and reduce dependence on delivery times from abroad.
In the near future, Ukraine will receive Swedish Gripen fighters, as well as additional F-16 and French Mirage aircraft.
Ukraine also received the first American F-16 fighter jets in August 2024.
