Investigators found that despite the reorganization of the institution and the transfer of property and employees to the State Forest Agency, more than 20 thousand hectares of forest remained under the management of the Ministry of Defense. At the same time, forestry exeds continued to issue permits for tree felling without proper documentation.
“Due to such actions in the territory of military forests, illegal felling continued for years. Trees were destroyed by private enterprises and later sold wood, ”the DBR noted.
In the framework of the pre -trial investigation, 40 examinations were assigned. In 2023 alone, illegal felling in the amount of more than UAH 68 million was documented. The calculation of total losses is still ongoing.
Former officials were informed about suspicion of exceeding their official powers. They face up to 10 years in prison.
The issue of choosing precautionary measures is currently being resolved and measures are being taken to compensate for the damage caused to the state.
