Ukraine managed to open a new format for the return of seriously ill Ukrainians from Russian captivity. As part of this format, 24 prisoners of war and one civilian were returned home on January 15, Andriy Yusov, a representative of the Main Intelligence Directorate of the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine, said.

This is a landmark event. Ukraine achieved a separate new format for the return of seriously ill and seriously wounded Ukrainian defenders and civilians. We worked on it for a long time. There is hope that movement in this direction will be faster and more effective,” said Yusov.

He clarified that the day before, Ukraine returned 24 prisoners of war and one civilian kidnapped by the occupiers in the Kyiv region as part of repatriation.

They have various diseases and injuries, including amputations, eye diseases, gangrene, cancer, etc. Currently, these Ukrainians are awaiting treatment and rehabilitation.

On January 15, President Volodymyr Zelenskyi announced that Ukraine had returned home 25 prisoners. Among them are the defenders of Mariupol, Azovstal, Kharkiv Oblast, Donetsk Oblast, Zaporozhye and Kherson Oblast.

The Coordinating Headquarters for the Treatment of Prisoners of War said that the youngest freed from Russian captivity is 24 years old, and the oldest is 60 years old. All of them are seriously ill and injured.
