On October 24, NAEK “Energoatom” connected the last, ninth power unit of Ukrainian nuclear power plants operating in the unoccupied territory to the power system.

This was announced by former Minister of Energy Olga Buslavets on Facebook.

“All nine NPP power units located on the territory controlled by Ukraine are already working in the state’s power system. Today, after scheduled repairs, the last, ninth power unit was connected,” she said.

According to Buslavets, electricity production at hydroelectric power stations is currently limited by available capacity and water resources, while the operation of thermal power plants and thermal power plants has decreased due to Russian attacks on energy infrastructure. The production of electricity from renewable sources (RES) remains at a seasonal level and depends on weather conditions.

At the same time, according to JSC “Market Operator”, over the last week, prices on the wholesale electricity market have decreased by 20% on working days. The BASE base load electricity price index on the day-ahead market averaged UAH 6,103/MWh.

Currently, Energoatom operates nine power units of the South Ukrainian, Rivne and Khmelnytsky NPPs with a total capacity of 7,880 MW, which are located on the territory controlled by Ukraine.

The Zaporizhzhia NPP, which has six VVER-1000 power units with a total capacity of 6,000 MW, has not been producing electricity since September 11, 2022, following the Russian occupation on March 3-4, 2022.

As a reminder, Ukrainian energy workers are once again working on restoring the power supply lines that supply the Zaporizhzhia nuclear power plant. Currently, repair works are ongoing, which are already 42 in number after the capture of the station by the Russian occupiers.

We would like to remind you that at the Zaporizhzhia Nuclear Power Plant (ZAEP) the repair of damaged power lines has begun, which is a key stage for ensuring nuclear safety.

A decision on the temporary cessation of hostilities for the purpose of carrying out repairs at the Zaporizhzhia Nuclear Power Plant (ZAEP) may be adopted tomorrow, October 17.

The International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) calls on Ukraine and the Russian Federation to agree to a local ceasefire. This would make it possible to restore the external energy supply of the Zaporizhzhia nuclear plant power plants.
