The prosecutors sent a request to the court for the removal of 4 ophthalmologists of the district hospital, accused of improper performance of professional duties, official negligence and obtaining undue benefits, which caused grave consequences for patients.
According to the investigation, from March 2022 to February 2023, three doctors, at the instructions of the head of the department, introduced the patient to patients, demanding from 8 to 34 thousand UAH from each.
As a result of such actions, 18 patients were injured: 15 lost their eyesight per eye, 3 – on both, and 7 patients had to remove the eye.
The state has caused losses of almost 900 thousand UAH for the treatment of the victims. Criminal proceedings are considered by the Chortkiv District Court. Since doctors continue to work in hospital, prosecutors consider it necessary to temporarily remove from positions to minimize risks for patients and staff.
