Authorities in Tatarstan have reported a drone attack, leading to the cancellation of local festivities in Kazan. This incident has raised concerns about security in the region amid ongoing tensions.
Andriy Kovalенко, head of the Center for Counteracting Disinformation under Ukraine’s National Security and Defense Council, indicated that local social media platforms have been abuzz with reports of explosions in Tatarstan. He noted that the region is being targeted by ‘Shahed’ drones, suggesting that while Tatarstan is resource-rich, it has chosen a specific path in the current geopolitical landscape.
Guzel Khabutdinova, the head of the Almetyevsk district, confirmed a significant attempt at a drone attack on industrial facilities. She reported that air defense systems and electronic warfare units are operating at heightened levels in response to the threat.
Residents have been advised to avoid open spaces and stay away from windows due to the potential for further drone strikes. As a precaution, the authorities in Kazan have decided to cancel all planned Maslenitsa celebrations for the day.
Currently, there is no official information regarding the impact of the attack or any damages incurred.
This incident in Tatarstan follows a series of drone attacks reported across Russia. Recently, residents in the Krasnodar region reported a drone strike that resulted in a fire at an oil facility. Social media circulated images and videos showing the aftermath of the strikes.
Official reports later confirmed a fire at the Ilsky Oil Refinery, where a storage tank containing petroleum products was hit, leading to a large-scale blaze.
Additionally, explosions were reported in Volgograd during the night of February 10-11, with local residents claiming a drone attack had occurred. Videos surfaced online showing a significant fire following the strike, which targeted a local oil refinery.
The Ukrainian Armed Forces later confirmed that they conducted a strike on the Volgograd Oil Refinery, which is utilized to support Russian occupying forces.
