On January 25, 2026, the spokesman of the State Border Service of Ukraine, Andriy Demchenko, reported a decrease in the number of cases of illegal crossing of the state border in the winter period. Despite the general downward trend, attempts to breach the border remain a daily occurrence, with the highest activity traditionally observed in the areas with Romania and Moldova.
As Demchenko said on the air of the telethon, border guards continue to detect persons who try to leave the country outside the checkpoints, despite increased control measures and difficult weather conditions.
Of particular concern to the department is the choice by violators of extremely dangerous routes through mountainous terrain or water obstacles in frosty weather. Demchenko emphasized that units of the State Security Service have repeatedly detained people with signs of severe hypothermia and severe frostbite of the limbs, which poses a direct threat to their lives. The Border Service once again urges citizens not to risk their health by choosing routes through hard-to-reach natural areas, which become deadly in winter.
The situation at the border remains under close supervision, as Russia is trying to use the topic of illegal migration to conduct information and psychological operations and discredit the mobilization processes in Ukraine. Russia actively spreads manipulative videos on social networks, stimulating dangerous behavior among conscripts. At the same time, the DPSU is strengthening the technical equipment of the border, in particular with the help of drones with thermal imagers, which makes it possible to effectively detect violators even at night and in conditions of limited visibility.
