The man was hospitalized with serious complications: purulent inflammation of the soft tissues of the neck, rupture of the esophagus, mediastinitis (inflammation of the mediastinum) and pleural empyema (accumulation of pus in the chest cavity).
Doctors performed a complex surgical operation, during which a gastrostomy was applied to ensure the drainage of stomach contents. The instruments were successfully removed, and after three weeks of treatment the patient was discharged from the hospital in a state of recovery.
