An “Audi Q3” car from Slovakia was crossing the Ukrainian border under the control of a woman, a citizen of Ukraine, and a 42-year-old man from Transcarpathia was driving with her. Both chose the “green corridor”, which meant the absence of prohibited items and simplified customs control.
However, the customs officials already had operational information about the possible movement of drugs by this man. Therefore, the car was immediately sent for an in-depth inspection, where assistance was provided by the canine team of the Transcarpathian Customs. Ritchie’s service dog worked on the man: a nearly 1kg package of a crystalline substance similar to amphetamine was attached to his back.
Further, the inspection showed another hiding place in a package of washing powder weighing more than 1 kg. The Rapiscan device confirmed that it was also amphetamine. After that, the canine team went to the residence of the suspects in the Mukachevo district. During the search, the dog found another 2 kg of psychotropic substance. Thus, the total weight of the recovered amphetamine was about 4 kg.
Customs officials and the police are conducting investigative actions to identify all persons involved in the illegal circulation of particularly dangerous narcotics. “Our joint work with the National Police and border guards made it possible to quickly identify and seize drugs that could have entered the market,” the press service of the Transcarpathian Customs noted. The law enforcement officers continue the investigation and establish all the circumstances of the case in order to bring the culprits to justice in accordance with the law.
