The head of the Mejlis of the Crimean Tatar people, Refat Chubarov, does not currently see any opportunities for negotiations with the Russian Federation about the end of the war in Ukraine.

He emphasized this in an interview with the Crimean public media Cemaat.

“First of all, we need to influence American society so that their president, their politicians do not betray the principles of justice on which the world is built,” he said.

Chubarov noted that it is necessary to find certain mechanisms to influence public opinion, including the opinion of the United States.

“We should all unite, and not only the Crimean Tatar unions abroad, but also involve the diasporas of those peoples who are in the coalition with us, the Baltic peoples, and the Poles,” added Chubarov.

He once again emphasized the importance of taking into account the position of the Crimean Tatars in the future of Crimea.

“The Ukrainian state should necessarily involve the representative body of the indigenous Crimean Tatar people in the negotiations on the end of Crimea on all those issues when it comes to the future of Crimea. The Mejlis of the Crimean Tatar people must be a participant in these negotiations as part of the Ukrainian state,” the head of the Mejlis emphasized.

Chubarov noted that he does not see any possibilities for negotiations on the end of the Russian-Ukrainian war to take place in the near future.

“Russia will try to promote such an approach – let’s sit down and talk, and Russia will want to furnish it with some buoys that we cannot swim behind. They will say that referendums were held in Kherson, Luhansk, and Zaporizhzhia regions, we don’t mention Crimea anymore, it was a long time ago, and you have to give us these territories. Today, the positions are such that I cannot imagine how it will be possible to sit down at the negotiating table. The positions are such that this will not happen,” he said.

At the same time, the chairman of the Mejlis emphasized that he cannot imagine how US President Donald Trump will fulfill his promise to end the war in Ukraine.

“Here the question arises – what will Trump, the USA, do? Because they very clearly declared that they would achieve this peace. But how will they achieve it? Approval of the Russian option is the destruction of the entire international system and of these values on which the United States stands. It will be a recognition that power decides everything. It will be a defeat. And to take the position of Ukraine is to take the norms of international law,” he said.

According to Chubarov, today we are talking not only about the security of the Ukrainian state, but also about the security of European countries and the global world.

“The most important choice is currently being made in the heads of European politicians. If they decide to defend themselves to the end, to defend their countries, to ensure security for their peoples, then they should do everything to help Ukraine restore its territorial integrity. That is, to bring the situation to such a state that Russia cannot avoid returning to the limits of international law. The issue of the security of, at least, European countries is the issue of a fair end to this war, and there is simply no other,” he added.

Earlier, President Zelensky expressed confidence that Trump can help Ukraine stop Putin.

US President-elect Donald Trump made a secret promise to European leaders. He made it clear that he would continue to support Kyiv after returning to the White House.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyi said that the first negotiations on the end of the war will be with the newly elected President Donald Trump. Only after that can negotiations with Russia begin.
