The head of the Main Directorate of Intelligence of the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine Kirill Budanov stated that he intends to remain in his position until the end of the war with Russia.
He said this in an interview with Bloomberg.
“Now my dream is to stop this war. Ukraine is a country of opportunity. In the future, I will decide what I want to do, ”Budanov said.
Next month there will be five years of his work as the head of the GUR. He added to the journalist’s remark: “If I survive.” Budanov explained that “anything can happen” and told about the memorial in his department, dedicated to intelligence officers who died in the course of their duties.
The intelligence chair also commented on the restoration of US military assistance to Ukraine and expressed confidence that support would continue in the near future. According to him, the US can provide additional air defense systems.
With regard to the position of President Donald Trump, Budanov considers it consistent and calls not to judge Trump solely by media characteristics: “I know more as the head of the intelligence service.”
In addition, Budanov considers the real achievement of a ceasefire between Ukraine and Russia by the end of 2025. “Is it really true. Is it difficult – no. This requires at least three parties – Ukraine, Russia and the USA. And we will come to that, ”he added.
