Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney officially visited Ukraine for the first time, arriving in Kiev on Sunday to celebrate Independence Day.
Bloomberg writes about it.
The visit took place in conditions of rigid media and increased safety due to constant Russian firing of the capital.
Carney meets with President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky to discuss an additional $ 2 billion military assistance package.
Negotiations also cover cooperation in the production of defense equipment and security guarantees.
Canada is ready to join the peacekeeping mission in Ukraine as part of the “will” – groups of countries led by the United Kingdom and France.
Canadian Defense Minister Bill Blair said that the country is “ready and capable of contributing” to such forces, but only if security guarantees from the United States.
Recall that Canada has allocated $ 1.7 billion in Ukraine at the expense of the assets of the Russian Federation.
Canada also seeks to produce military equipment together with Ukraine.
