The Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine reported that by May 2025, elementary school students will be eaten free of charge in schools. Ukraine is not enough money to provide free food for grades 1-11.
There are now no funds for all students in the state budget or in the budgets of the community, the Ministry of Finance reported.
Local communities received UAH 2.8 billion for hot food for elementary school students, and these funds will be enough for January-May. It is a assistance from the European Union, and no funds for the nutrition of students in all classes in the State Budget of Ukraine for 2025 are not provided.
The Ministry of Education and Science currently consider several ways to solve the current situation: either to look for food funding for all students or to provide free lunches only 1-4 grades.
The head of the Ministry of Education and Science Oksen Lisovy has recently reported that school nutrition reform is ongoing in Ukraine. As of now, not all educational establishments have modern equipment and are fully provided by staff, and there are difficulties with the energy capacity of the dining room.
The free food of students is provided by local budgets, and in general, the Ministry of Education and Science plans to finally resolve all issues at a meeting with the Prime Minister.
Recently, the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine has made a decision on the distribution of subsidies to local budgets in the amount of ₴ 460.5 million for the arrangement of shelters in schools and military lyceums.
In Kiev, school leaders were entitled to make the decision on the introduction of quarantine in case of exceeding epidemiological indicators of influenza and SARS among students. It will be possible to choose between transfer to distance learning or suspension of lessons in individual classes.
