Budanov does not see security guarantee for Ukraine in peacekeepers

Sending Western troops to Ukraine can hardly be considered a guarantee of security. There was no country in history in which the introduction of peacekeepers would really give the result. Sending Western troops to Ukraine can hardly be considered a guarantee of security. There was no country in history in which the introduction of peacekeepers would really give the result.

Kiril Budanov, the head of the Main Directorate of Intelligence (GUR), told about it in an interview with journalist Einulli Fatullaev.

“That’s the answer. There may be somewhere (where it worked, – ed.), But I do not remember this case. I was interested, I figured out many examples. Nowhere. Is it possible to consider it a guarantee? Obviously, in doubt. Well, let’s say this: just in doubt, ”Budanov explained.

At the same time, GUR head noted that in general, the question of what security guarantees is very debatable. Today, in addition to Ukraine’s accession to NATO, there is no format that would provide protection to Ukraine.

The status of NATO ally, as Budanov noted, is also not a guarantee of security, as this concerns the obligations and support of the country, but not more.

We will remind, President of Latvia Edgar Rinkevich stated that he was open to discussion of a peacekeeping mission in Ukraine. However, two conditions must be fulfilled before deciding on the possible sending of troops.

The UK Prime Minister, Kir Starmer, is visiting the United States. In Washington, he will present to US President Donald Trump his version of the peacekeeping plan for Ukraine.

Sweden Prime Minister ULF Kristerson said that sending Swedish troops to Ukraine as part of peacekeeping forces is absolutely possible.

The Kremlin stated that any UK plans to send troops to Ukraine within a possible peacekeeping mission are unacceptable to Russia.
