Buckwheat groats remain one of the budget popular products in Ukraine as of January 2026. Despite the fact that supermarkets regularly update the prices of popular products, the price of buckwheat changes quite slowly.

Economist Volodymyr Chyzh, in a comment to the Live News publication, noted that the price of buckwheat may increase by 8-10% in 2026. At the same time, a good harvest can soften the price increase.

“This is due to the expected moderate increase in the cost of cereals and the overproduction of some cereals in the world, which reduces the pressure on the price of buckwheat. Seasonal fluctuations can adjust the number in both directions,” Chizh explained.

He added that consumer prices in Ukraine are affected by both internal and external factors. Among the internal factors are the high cost of production, significant energy costs and logistics. The economist attributed fluctuations in world prices for raw materials and food to external factors.

Consumer inflation in Ukraine slowed to 8% year-on-year in December 2025, compared to 9.3% in November.
