One of the main advisers of the newly elected US President Donald Trump, Boris Epshtein, proposed his candidacy for the post of special representative for peace negotiations in Ukraine.
This was reported by The New York Times on Friday, November 15, citing sources.
As the NYT notes, one of Trump’s top advisers, Boris Epstein, offered to appoint himself as a mediator for peace talks in Ukraine when Trump and his team flew to Washington for the first meeting with Joe Biden after winning the election.

Boris Epstein, who previously coordinated the legal defense of Donald Trump in criminal cases, offered his candidacy for a diplomatic post despite his lack of experience in foreign policy.
As the NYT notes, Epstein was born in Russia and lived there until the age of seven. He said that he has family “on both sides of the conflict.”
According to the publication’s sources, some passengers on the plane were surprised by the idea of appointing Epstein to such an important diplomatic post.
In addition to his lack of experience in diplomacy, Epstein is currently a defendant in a case in Arizona where he, along with other Trump associates, is accused of attempting to overturn the results of the 2020 election through the use of voter fraud.

According to the NYT, one of the passengers on the plane was not shocked by the idea of appointing Epstein as a special representative. This person turned out to be the only one whose opinion mattered, the newspaper notes. Trump himself, after listening to Epstein, did not reject the offer, but did not make a clear promise either.
Earlier, Fox News, citing sources, reported that the newly elected US President Donald Trump may soon choose a special representative who will lead negotiations on ending Russia’s war against Ukraine.
The main candidate for the position of US special representative for Ukraine for negotiations on ending the war is American diplomat Brian Hook, ZN.UA reported, citing interlocutors.
