The Ukrainian military is holding positions within the Kurakhovo Donetsk region, so it is too early to talk about the complete capture of the city by the Russian occupiers, Viktor Tregubov, the spokesman for the operational-strategic grouping of the Khortytsia troops, said on Sospilny on Saturday, January 11.
Commenting on the data of the DeepState project, which wrote about the full occupation of the city, Tregubov said that the Ukrainian military is holding positions at the Kurakhiv TPP, which is within the city limits.
“Therefore, we cannot now say that the Russian troops took the city completely. Although, of course, most of the city is simply demolished there. This must be recognized,” he said.
Tregubov clarified that the Defense Forces of Ukraine, given their presence at the TPP, did not leave the settlement, but “the situation is difficult.”
Earlier on January 11, DeepState reported that the Russians occupied Kurakhov, Donetsk region. The General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine did not confirm the withdrawal of the Defense Forces from the city, but united Kurakhove and the suburbs in the Pokrovsky direction.
Institute for the Study of War (ISW) wrote on December 27 that Russian troops probably captured Kurakhov after two months of intensive offensive operations. At the time, the military-analytical project DeepState denied this information, but stated that the Russians were advancing in the city.
According to OVA, about 300 people remained in Kurakhovo.
