The Office of the President of Ukraine, Volodymyr Zelenskyi, is considering the possibility of firing the head of the Main Directorate of Intelligence, Kyryll Budanov, and not only him. In an interview with Radio NV, the secretary of the Verkhovna Rada’s Committee on National Security, Defense and Intelligence, Roman Kostenko, told what the reasons could be and who the successors would be.
– What reasons, claims can there be – public or not – to send Budanov to resign?
— There is such information, indeed, now not only regarding Budanov — there may be several personnel decisions. There is information that the Minister of Defense of Ukraine may also be replaced [Рустем Умєров].
But during all the time in the Office, decisions are sometimes made at 100%, and then they somehow change. And then we see a personnel decision that no one talked about.
But now there is information that the Minister of Defense Umerov and Kirill Budanov can be removed. There is information that he has a difficult relationship with the President’s Office.
I see that the OP has a difficult relationship with everyone who has some recognition, who has some good attitude and authority in society. There are complaints against these people immediately – in terms of service and in general.
I don’t know what the reasons may be, from the point of view of the performance of his official duties, because we work constantly with the GUR, he (Budanov — Ed.) comes to the committee and reports to us. Of course, the committee does not assign him tasks, he reports directly to the Minister of Defense and the President. But it is a more independent structure that performs its tasks. And we see that it successfully performs.
