They were intercepted during arrival in Sydney thanks to the cooperation of Ukrainian and Australian customs and the management of arts. Subsequently, they were confiscated in accordance with the Australian law on the protection of the movable cultural heritage in 1986.

Foreign Minister of Ukraine Andriy Sibiga expressed his particular gratitude to the Australian Government for cooperation in the interception and counteraction of the crime, as well as assistance in preserving and returning unique Ukrainian artifacts.
“The return of Ukrainian artifacts is an important component of the restoration of historical justice and confirmation of the historical gravity of Ukraine. This is especially important in the conditions when Russia is leading a genocide war against Ukraine and trying to erase our history,” Sibiga said.

The Foreign Minister emphasized that by returning cultural values, Ukraine restores not only certain moments of history, but also the right to its own memory, dignity and cultural gravity, which is part of our struggle for freedom and future.
