Pensions of security forces are ten times higher than those of other citizens. One of the reasons is the courts, which help to circumvent the limits on payments, the other is the disability status, which also entitles you to additional payments. The Cabinet and the Council want to reform and equalize payments for all Ukrainians.
“The figure that shocked me: only in 9 months of 2024, the state spent about UAH 88 billion on special pensions (for law enforcement officers), by the end of the year this amount may increase to UAH 120 billion,” says the Ministry of Social Policy’s response to Forbes’ request. This is approximately our budget for education (educational subvention is only 103 billion),” wrote People’s Deputy Yaroslav Zhelezniak.
The publication Forbes Ukraine investigated who receives increased pensions and how the calculation of special pensions can change.
In the nine months of 2024, the state spent about UAH 88 billion on special pensions, by the end of the year this amount may increase to UAH 120 billion.
Increased pension payments to law enforcement officers attracted attention after the statement of the editor-in-chief of “Censor.NET” Yury Butusov: 50 prosecutors of the Khmelnytskyi region receive pensions due to disability. This status was allegedly granted to them by the local medical and social examination (MSEK).
According to the Ministry of Social Policy, almost 160,000 people in Ukraine will receive special pensions, of which almost 77,000 are members of the security forces and law enforcement officers.
The parliament and the government are preparing to change the rules for receiving special pensions and the status of a person with a disability, as well as to liquidate MSEK.
We will remind you that the Pension Fund of Ukraine completed the financing of pensions for October 2024, sending a record amount of 64 billion hryvnias. Of these, 54.5 billion hryvnias were paid through authorized banks, and 9.5 billion hryvnias through Ukrposhta.
Earlier we wrote that the Verkhovna Rada supported the amendment to cancel the 37% salary increase for prosecutors.
We will also remind you that in 9 months of 2024, the state spent almost 88 billion hryvnias on special pensions. By the end of the year, this amount will be almost 120 billion.
