“Another village in Bukovina has come out of occupation! We congratulate and rejoice with them,” they wrote on the social network. 122 representatives of the community who attended the meeting voted “for” the transition to the Orthodox Church of Ukraine.
“It was thanks to the representatives of the Moscow Patriarchate that people voted for pro-Russian narratives and pro-Russian parties. spread Russian propaganda and clouded the minds of Ukrainians. People didn’t know whether they could consider a Ukrainian who defends his native land a hero, or whether it was fratricide for them,” Hryschuk said in his sermon.
In the Chernivtsi region there are 379 religious communities that belong to the UOC MP. The largest number of them are in the Chernivtsi district – 214 religious communities, Vyzhnytskyi – 49, Dnistrovsky – 95. At the same time, 166 religious communities are subordinate to the Orthodox Church of Ukraine.
Since 2019, citizens’ meetings have been held in 43 settlements of the region, which decided to change the canonical subordination from the Ukrainian Orthodox Church of the Moscow Patriarchate to the Orthodox Church of Ukraine.
Since the beginning of the full-scale aggression, the religious communities of 25 settlements have passed from the UOC to the OCU: in 2022 – 6 religious communities, in 2023 – 12, in 2024 – 7.
In 2024, there were 218 fewer religious communities in the Ukrainian Orthodox Church of the Moscow Patriarchate – they transferred to the Orthodox Church of Ukraine.
