The new offensive of the Armed Forces of Ukraine in the Kursk region – what is known
On January 5, information appeared about the start of a new offensive by Ukrainian forces in certain areas of the Kursk region.
Later, the fact of the attack was indirectly confirmed by the head of the Office of the President of Ukraine, Andriy Yermak, and directly by the head of the Center for Countering Disinformation at the NSDC, Andriy Kovalenko.
As noted by the analysts of the Institute for the Study of War, Ukrainian troops really resumed offensive actions in the Kursk region of the Russian Federation in at least three areas and achieved tactical advances.
For its part, Der Spiegel indicated that the Armed Forces went on the offensive in the Kursk region two weeks before the inauguration of US President-elect Donald Trump, and this unexpected attack could highlight Russia’s weaknesses.
The Office of the President of Ukraine, commenting on offensive actions in the Kursk region, reported that this territory must be treated as a resource.
“This is our resource in order to exchange the territories of the Kursk region for our lands that Ukraine needs, which are currently occupied by Russia,” said Serhiy Leshchenko, adviser to the head of the President’s Office.
