The Multiple Citizenship Law in Ukraine concerns historical relations with the Diaspora in Canada, the United States, France and other countries.
The head of the State Migration Service Natalia Naumenko told about it.
According to her, it is difficult for Ukrainians in EU countries to obtain citizenship of these states: a marriage with an EU citizen, long -term residence or grounds in origin, as well as knowledge of language, history and culture are needed. Currently, about 95% of Ukrainians in the EU are not entitled to citizenship there.
“The law is more aimed at the descendants of ethnic Ukrainians who have been born and lived abroad, but want to preserve Ukrainian citizenship without losing another,” Naumenko explained.
She also noted that not all EU countries recognize multiple citizenship, so Ukrainians who will receive citizenship of such a state may be faces to choose.
Swiss authorities will change the approach to protecting Ukrainian citizens who were forced to leave their homeland because of the full -scale invasion of Russia. Only residents of certain Ukrainian regions will be able to apply for help.
