The State Education Quality Service has announced a plan to inspect about 50 more colleges and universities that have recorded a sharp increase in the number of students over the age of 25. Previously, similar checks had already revealed numerous admission schemes, due to which older entrants received a postponement from mobilization, the head of the State Service for the Quality of Education, Ruslan Gurak, said.
Inspections will continue until the end of the year, and the work will continue from the beginning of the new school year. “We continue such checks. By the end of the year, several inspections are planned, and the work will continue at the beginning of the next school year. We have planned to check another 50 colleges and institutions of higher education. And how much can be deducted? We’ll see from the results,” Gurak said.
Particular attention is now focused on colleges, because the Ministry of Education and the Verkhovna Rada have restricted admission to universities, so most of the older applicants choose colleges. According to Gurak, a total of about 50,000 students have already been expelled.
“To understand the scale: for many years, about 30,000 students over 25 years of age have been steadily studying in Ukrainian educational institutions. This applied to all forms of vocational pre-university education, higher education, second higher education, as well as postgraduate education. Currently, there are already 250,000 such students. That is, we are talking about the fact that the contingent increased by 220,000 students in the conditions of war,” the head of the service emphasized.
Preliminary checks have already covered about 50 institutions. A number of schemes have been identified, thanks to which older students entered educational institutions in order to receive a deferment from mobilization. As a result, 8 criminal cases were initiated, deans and rectors were detained, and reports were submitted to the Ministry of Education and Culture regarding the cancellation of the licenses of two institutions.
