In Chornomorsk, Odesa region, a 40-year-old woman from Vinnytsia was detained by the police for stealing a car because she wanted to drive to the sea.
This happened after a 25-year-old local resident reported the disappearance of his VAZ, which had been left unlocked. Police started searched for the car and found it in half an hour, and the thief, who did not have a permanent place of residence and was not in a state of intoxication, was behind the wheel.
As a result, the woman was charged with driving a vehicle while intoxicated, which includes a fine of 17,000 hryvnias and a one-year disqualification from driving. In addition, administrative fines were imposed on her for not having driving rights. Investigators detained her in accordance with Art. 208 of the Criminal Procedure Code of Ukraine, and the court chose a preventive measure in the form of a personal commitment.
This situation highlights the problem of crime related to car theft and shows the activity of law enforcement agencies in the fight against such crimes. The owner of the car got his property back, and the woman faces up to five years in prison.
