On January 12, 2026, the head of the Kherson Regional Military Administration, Oleksandr Prokudin, announced the creation of a multi-level defense network designed to protect the civilian population and critical infrastructure of the region from massive UAV attacks.
As Prokudin said on the air of the telethon, during 2025, the occupying forces used a record 97,000 strike drones in the region, which resulted in the death of 130 people, including three children. In response to these threats, a system combining radio-electronic warfare, physical interference and operational response was built in the region.
The basis of protection was a radio-electronic “wall” that simultaneously works in fifteen different frequencies. This allows you to effectively neutralize a wide range of enemy vehicles — from reconnaissance Mavics to high-speed FPV drones. Thanks to this technology and the efforts of mobile groups, it was possible to destroy or land 93 thousand Russian drones last year. In addition to electronic countermeasures, logistics are actively protected in the region: more than a hundred kilometers of roads and dozens of strategic objects, including hospitals and markets, are covered with special protective nets that catch drones and mitigate the consequences of ammunition drops.
Despite the high efficiency of the system, Oleksandr Prokudin warned that there is no 100% security guarantee, as the enemy is constantly improving technology. In particular, in the Kherson region, the use of fiber-optic drones, which are not vulnerable to EW, as well as the use of mother drones of the “Molniya” type, capable of carrying smaller FPV kamikazes, has been recorded. The constant change in the tactics of the occupiers forces Ukrainian specialists to adapt defense mechanisms to the new technical challenges of war every day.
