Defense Minister of Ukraine Rustem Umyerov presented to President Volodymyr Zelensky the concept of introducing the institution of the military ombudsman.
As noted in the press service of the Ministry of Defense with reference to the words of Umerov himself, this is “an important initiative aimed at the systematic protection of the rights of our servicemen.”
The first step in this direction was the creation of the Central Department for the Protection of Servicemen’s Rights. As the Minister of Defense informed, in this aspect there are already the first results – responding to complaints, visits to places of violations, conducting inspections and ensuring the restoration of military rights.
The next step will be the introduction of the institution of the military ombudsman.
“The military ombudsman should get all the necessary tools for real and thorough work: protecting the rights of servicemen, reservists and their family members, as well as analyzing systemic problems and solving them,” explained Rustem Umyerov.
President Zelensky instructed to prepare the presentation of this draft law. The document may soon be put to a vote in the Verkhovna Rada.
The day before, on December 3, we wrote that the Minister of Defense of Ukraine Rustem Umyerov had a telephone conversation with his American colleague Lloyd Austin. The parties, in particular, discussed preparations for the next meeting of the contact group regarding assistance to Ukraine in the Rammstein format.
Earlier, the head of the Ukrainian Ministry of Defense reported that next year 26.3% of the country’s GDP (i.e. UAH 2.23 trillion) will be allocated to defense.
