A new fraud scheme was exposed in Ukraine. Criminals use information about loved ones who are missing or in captivity to mislead relatives and demand money.
This was announced by the head of the Secretariat of the Coordination Headquarters for the Treatment of Prisoners of War, Bohdan Okhrimenko.
Thus, fraudsters establish contact with families through messengers and assure that they have valuable information about their loved ones. After gaining trust, they begin to demand financial rewards.
The Coordination Headquarters has already forwarded information about such cases to the Security Service of Ukraine, the National Police and the Cyber Police for further investigation.
Relatives of captured and missing soldiers were urged to avoid publishing personal data on social networks and to contact only official state bodies — the Coordination Headquarters, the Joint Center under the SBU, and the National Information Bureau.
Earlier, in Izyum, Kharkiv Oblast, the first suspicions were announced in the criminal proceedings about fraud with compensations under the “eRecovery” state program.
And in Chernihiv Oblast, the police exposed a group that established a scheme for the sale of cars imported as humanitarian aid for the Armed Forces.
