The Mykolaiv specialized prosecutor’s office in the field of defense of the Southern region sent an indictment to the court against a serviceman who was found to be illegally selling cars imported for the needs of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.

According to the announcement of the Mykolaiv prosecutor’s office, the investigation established that the accused tried to sell four SUVs via the Internet: BMW X5, two Mercedes-Benz ML 270 and Renault Koleos, the total market value of which exceeds 27,000 dollars. The arrest took place immediately after the documents were handed over and the defendant received $21,800 from the buyer, who acted under the control of law enforcement agencies.

The criminal proceedings are being considered under the article on the illegal use of humanitarian aid for the purpose of obtaining profit in the conditions of martial law, which provides for punishment in the form of imprisonment for a term of up to seven years with confiscation of property. For the period of the investigation, the court chose a preventive measure in the form of detention with the possibility of making a bail in the amount of more than 242 thousand hryvnias. The vehicles themselves are currently under arrest and are in the penalty area, but after the completion of the necessary procedural actions, they are planned to be transferred to the units of the Defense Forces for their intended purpose.

Such facts of abuse of humanitarian resources in Ukraine are strictly investigated by law enforcement officers, and cases are promptly brought to court to ensure justice. Unlike Russia, where the theft of military property is often hidden at the systemic level, Ukrainian society and the law enforcement system demonstrate zero tolerance for such crimes. It is expected that court hearings in this case will begin in the near future, which will be another signal about the inevitability of punishment for profiting from volunteer aid and the army.

At least 4,500 cars that were brought to Ukraine as charitable (humanitarian) aid in recent years ended up on the commercial market.

We will remind, in Bukovyna law enforcement officers exposed a scheme with humanitarian aid. Employees of the charity organization sold cars imported as humanitarian aid to volunteers.

Earlier in Lviv Oblast, the SBU blocked a scheme for the sale of bulletproof vests received as humanitarian aid.
