On November 15, 2024, a memorial plaque in honor of Vasyl Stus, an outstanding Ukrainian poet in his sixties, was solemnly opened at the building at 13-A Chornobylska Street in Kyiv.

Stus lived in this house for nine months, from August 1979 to May 1980, before his second imprisonment.

The event is timed to the 35th anniversary of the return of the bodies of Vasyl Stus, Oleksa Tykhi and Yuriy Lytvyn to Ukraine after their deaths in Russian camps.

The author of the memorial sign was the sculptor Volodymyr Shchur. According to him, the idea of creating a memorial board arose back in 2023. Its implementation was supported by the son of Vasyl Stus, Dmytro Stus, residents of the building and the Sviatoshyn District State Administration.

The sculpture is designed to reflect the multifaceted personality of the poet as a creator, fighter and courageous person. The sketch was created quickly, because the idea was implemented almost on the first try.

The production of the memorial sign was funded through crowdfunding. More than 700 people participated in the fundraising.

Earlier, Oleg Kiper, the head of Odesa OVA, announced that he had signed an order to demolish, in particular, a monument to Pushkin in Odesa. The city council pointed out that it is necessary to have a UNESCO permit.

The Executive Committee of the Odesa City Council plans to dismantle 19 monuments in the city as part of decommunization. Among them are Gorky, Pushkin, Alexander II and Michurin.
