A man who paid with fake USDT crypto tokens was detained in Odesa

In Odesa, the police detained a 32-year-old man on suspicion of fraud: he offered an entrepreneur payment in USDT cryptocurrency, helped create a crypto wallet and transferred invalid tokens to it. The attacker got a laptop, phones and headphones with an approximate value of 100 thousand hryvnias, but later it turned out that the tokens have no real value.

According to the investigation, the man informed the entrepreneur about the transfer of more than 2,500 USDT and thus took possession of the victim’s property. The suspect pleaded guilty and partially compensated for the damages. He is charged with fraud under Part 4 of Art. 190 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine, which provides up to eight years of imprisonment.

This case highlights the need to be cautious about cryptocurrency transactions, especially in cases of unknown counterparties. Further investigation will help identify possible accomplices and root out such scams.
