The court in Borodyanka, Kyiv region, acquitted a Russian soldier accused of robbing a private house during the occupation of the region in March 2022. This is the first decision of the Ukrainian court that acquitted the occupier. This fact caused a significant public outcry in Ukraine.
Details are provided by tsn.ua.
According to the judge, the court did not question the fact of the robbery of a civilian home and participation in this unit of the Russian Guard. However, there was a lack of “irrefutable evidence” for a guilty verdict:
“The fact that this particular person entered this particular house or that she was at least near this house, at least on this street, has not been established and has not been presented to the court,” Judge Stasenko explained.
The judge noted that before that, the Borodyansky court had issued guilty verdicts against four Russian war criminals, and in total there were 211 such verdicts in Ukraine.
The Prosecutor General’s Office is aware of the huge workload, but they emphasize that Ukraine has no right not to record crimes:
“We don’t want any crime to go unaccounted for. We do not want other countries to become a safe haven for Russian war criminals.”
We will remind that the Russian military executed two Ukrainian servicemen near Gulyaipol in Zaporizhzhia, and an investigation has already been launched into this fact as a war crime against prisoners.
Russia lost another 860 soldiers per day.
The Russian attack also cut off power to a number of communities in Chernihiv Oblast.
