The Security Service of Ukraine together with the National Police exposed a criminal group that prepared a large batch of “trophy” weapons for underground sale.

“The Security Service and the National Police prevented new attempts at illegal arms trade in Ukraine. As a result of comprehensive measures, a criminal group was neutralized in the Kyiv Oblast and Dnipropetrovsk Oblast, which prepared a large batch of “trophy” weapons for underground sale,” the Ukrainian special service said in a message on the Telegram channel on Monday.
Law enforcement officers detained the organizer of the group, two of his accomplices and three criminals who tried to sell the means of destruction.
“Among those seized from the accused are 75 samples of small arms, including Kalashnikov assault rifles, as well as 38 combat grenades, more than 20 detonators, 2 grenade launchers and 13,000 rounds of ammunition,” the report states.
The operation took place on the territory of Kyiv region and Dnipropetrovsk region, where law enforcement officers detained the organizer of the group, two of his accomplices and three participants.
The law enforcement officers discovered that the group not only intended to sell weapons, but also repaired them in underground workshops on the territory of their homes.
Criminals were looking for customers among local criminal circles who could use these weapons to commit crimes. During the searches, 13,000 cartridges of various calibers and significant amounts of cash were additionally seized.
At present, the detainees have been notified of the suspicion under Part 2 of Art. 28, Part 1 of Art. 263 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine (illegal handling of weapons, munitions or explosives, committed by a group of persons according to a prior conspiracy).
The issue of additional qualification of the actions of the participants is being resolved.
The perpetrators are in custody.
Comprehensive measures were carried out under the procedural guidance of the Office of the Prosecutor General.
