According to the measurements of Polari, the height of the noticeable part of the iceberg reaches 80 meters, and the width – about 90 meters. This iceberg has a “table” form – with almost vertical sides and a flat surface, which makes it look like a huge ice island in the middle of the ocean.
The head of the 30th Ukrainian Antarctic Expedition, Alexander Noa, said that for many wintering at the station he had not seen such large-scale ice brips before. Although iceberg is distant for a few tens of kilometers from the island, it can be seen directly from the windows of the station.
Scientists suggest that the glacier broke away from one of the large shelf glaciers located to the south – George VI or Wilkins. Further movement and fate of the iceberg will continue to track scientists.
