In the village of Zalukva near Halych in the Ivano-Frankivsk region, archaeologists discovered a rare artifact of the Trypil culture – a clay figurine of a bull.
Volodymyr Oliinyk, general director of the “Davnii Halych” nature reserve, announced the opening.
According to him, the figure is unique for this area and is well preserved, which allows it to be studied in detail.
The discovery was made during planned archaeological research of a multi-layered settlement in the Garden tract.
The work is carried out by the department of archeology of the National Reserve “Davnii Halych” together with specialists in the reproduction of historical landscapes.
Oliynyk emphasized that such finds do not happen often, because most of such clay products are usually damaged or completely destroyed over the millennia.
The artifact is tentatively dated to stage B II of the Trypil culture, that is, the beginning of the IV millennium BC. This period is considered the heyday of Trypil settlements on the territory of modern Ukraine.
Scientists note that clay figures of animals could have not only household, but also cultic or symbolic significance for ancient communities.
It will be recalled that an ancient Egyptian luxury boat was discovered near Alexandria.
Also, during the excavations, archaeologists found artifacts from the times of Kyivan Rus.
